With profound grief, it is to inform that Professor U. Sankar, Founder Director of Madras School of Economics, passed away on March 30, 2025 following a brief illness.
One of the most respected economists of this country, Dr. Sankar is known for his path-breaking works in the fields of theoretical econometrics, industrial economics, environmental studies, and public finance. And above all he was a wonderful human being and mentor for a generation of economists.
We at MSE remember his huge contributions in building up this institution and also strengthening its both teaching and research capacities.
