Madras School of Economics offers the following 5-year Integrated MA in Economics with exit option in 3 year for BA (Honors) and 4-year with BA (Honors with Research), Awarded by the Madras School of Economics under its degree granting power as per MSE Act 2020.

5-year Integrated MA in Economics with exit option in 3 year for BA (Honors) and 4-year with BA (Honors with Research)
The core courses lay the foundations for the basic theory and give students a feel for how it is being played out in real economies. The courses in quantitative economics like Statistics for Economics, Mathematical Methods for Economics, Introductory Econometrics and Applied Econometrics equip them with a good range of skills and tools for quantitative analysis. Students with science background are strongly encouraged to apply. The compulsory courses- Public Economics, Development Economics and International Trade provide a unique opportunity to understand the policy prescriptions for a developing country like India. In addition, depending on the demand, disciple specific courses on subfields like Financial Economics, Environmental Economics, Game Theory, Risk Management, Issue in Development Economics, Energy Economics and so on are offered as electives. Further a wide variety of Generic Electives like Real Analysis, Operation Research, Stochastic Calculus, Business analytics, Machine Learning and Data science courses will be offered based on demand.
Eligibility
a) 10+2 Pass (in any subject combination) in the first attempt of final year exams in the AY 2025. Students who are appearing for their 10+2 exams in May 2025 can also apply.
b) The eligible candidates must secure at the 10+2: 65% for the General category; 60% for OBC – NonCreamy Layer; 50% for SC/ST/PWD candidates (Or respective equivalent grades or credits).
c) The eligible candidates should not have completed 22 years of age as on 1st July 2025.
d) The candidates should have studied mathematics (Standard/Applied/Business) at the 10+2 level in order to apply for this programme.
Number of Seats
Intake
- The maximum seats availability under the programme is 80, including a 35% quota for the ‘resident student of Tamil Nadu’, as per MSE Act 2020.
Application and Basis of Selection
- Admission will be based on the entrance test at designated centers in India, subject to fulfillment of the eligibility criteria. In the case of tie-in entrance test marks, merit ranking will be based on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and age. The Reservation Policy of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Central Government will be followed.
